In Farum city (Denmark), a ground-breaking business idea has been realized within medicine and health – an unmanned shop that always is open. Here, the local community can serve themselves and get their needs covered. The new store has revolutionized the way people access healthcare and pharmaceutical products. Digital price signs from Delfi Technologies have also been installed in the store.
24/7 convenience
The unmanned store is strategically located in the heart of Farum, easily accessible to both residents and city visitors. In a time of limited manpower within the pharmaceutical sector, an unmanned solution like this is an extra good idea to ensure that local people always have access to necessary health products.
That is why Vural Kocak, owner of Medicin & Sundhed in Farum, contacted Retail 360 Box Solutions to implement an unmanned store solution. The store has been equipped with a self-service solution and the latest technology, enabling customers to shop 24/7, exactly when it suits them. Regardless of whether it is early in the morning or late at night, Medicine & Sundhed is always open and ready to meet customers’ needs.
Access via mobile & Mit-ID
Customers enter the store by scanning a QR code on the door, and then register using Mit-ID, Denmark’s digital ID. Once registered, the door opens and customers can shop in peace and quiet. You will find everything from skin care products, vitamins, nutritional supplements, herbal remedies, intimate products, hair care products, health devices and various tests.
When you have found your items, you go to the self-service checkout, where you easily and quickly can pay for your purchases, both with MobilePay and payment cards. In collaboration with the pharmacy, Farum Apotek, you also have the option of getting medicine and over-the-counter medicine delivered to the collection machine set up in the store. You simply order online and receive an SMS code when the order is ready for collection.
After the shop had been open for 3 weeks, I went on holiday for 3 weeks. I don't think that would be possible in many other types of business, where it is not automated as much as here.
Digital price signs make price management easy
The shop is equipped with digital price signs, which help to remove the workload for the owner. The aim of the unmanned store is to be as self-running as possible. Therefore, it makes extra good sense to implement digital price signs. In this way, the prices displayed in the store are always synchronized with the self-service checkout.
The digital price tags retrieve data from the ERP system in the self-service checkout system, but it could also be from other data sources, such as a webshop or another system.
