SOLAR DANMARK SELF-SERVICE SOLUTION
Solar supports Denmark’s largest construction site with new project center
In a new 200 square meter Solar Project Center in Rødby, craftsmen and contractors can quickly access materials and spare parts for their work on the Fehmarnbelt link. A self-service solution from Delfi Technologies ensures customers have access to the store around the clock.
The construction of the Fehmarnbelt link is one of the largest construction projects in Danish history. In connection with the major construction work, an urgent need often arises when electrical and plumbing installers in particular suddenly need something to get on site. Therefore, Solar saw a unique opportunity to be physically present with a project center in Rødby.
24-HOUR PROJECT CENTER WITH DIGITAL SELF-SERVICE
In July 2021, Solar opened the new project center. Solar wanted a self-service solution with digital self-pick for their customers to give them access to the store around the clock. In collaboration with Delfi Technologies, Solar has therefore developed a ‘SelfService’ solution that allows customers to go shopping at all hours of the day via a personal access card.
The solution itself consists of mobile PDAs and software that customers can use to scan the items they want to buy – everything from machines and spare parts to work gloves and whatever else is needed on the construction site.
– We want it to be as easy as possible for our customers to access the necessary materials,” says Thomas Kaare Rasmussen, Site Manager at Solar Projektcenter Femern, and continues
– Many of our customers come from far away to work on the Fermern construction site, and forgetting a ruler or an important cable, for example, creates an urgent need that we can help with. Ultimately, it saves valuable time and ensures that customers can continue working.
"With our self-service solution, we can serve customers around the clock and ensure the necessary support for the many craftsmen coming here today and for many years to come."
EASILY PICK AND SCAN ITEMS WITH MOBILE PDAS
With the mobile handheld terminals(model: PM85) and the associated software application, Solar can complete the self-service experience. The solution makes it easy for the plumber to enter the project center, grab a PDA and get started with the purchase themselves.
As a technical wholesaler with many years of experience, Solar has carefully selected 1200 different part numbers for the shelves in the project center that will support the construction of the Fehmarnbelt link. This is only a small fraction of the many thousands of product numbers that Solar has in its complete product range. All items are labeled with a barcode that the customer scans when making their purchase.
A FUTURE-PROOF SOLUTION
The large construction project in Rødbyhavn requires many years of project work, which is why Solar has decided to be physically present throughout the process. According to Thomas Kaare Rasmussen, as more and more procurement processes have become digital and there is a need for 24-7 support in the form of materials for the construction, it is extra important to ensure a solid and durable procurement experience:
– With our self-service solution, we can serve customers around the clock and ensure the necessary support for the many craftsmen who come here today and for many years to come,” he says.
