Where is RFID scanning used?
Logistics and supply chain: RFID is used to track and manage shipments of goods throughout the supply chain. It enables precise inventory management, shipment tracking and automation of logistics processes.
Retail: In retail, RFID is used to track inventory, reduce shrinkage and improve inventory management. It can also enable faster checkout by scanning multiple items at once.
Access control and security: RFID tags are used to grant access to buildings, parking lots and other secured areas. They are also used in access cards for public transportation and events.
Identification and authentication: RFID can be used to identify and authenticate people, animals or objects. For example, it is used in passports, identity cards, pet tags and product authentication tags.
How does RFID scanning work?
RFID readers: RFID readers are devices that send radio waves to RFID tags and receive the data that is returned. These readers can be stationary or handheld scanners and can be integrated into cash registers, gates or other systems.
RFID scanning: When an RFID tag comes within range of a reader, it is activated and its unique identifier is sent to the reader. The reader then detects this identifier and, depending on the configuration, can perform various actions such as recording a transaction, updating a database or triggering an alarm.
