SkatePro – Scandinavia’s largest online skate shop for scooters, roller skates and boards, was founded in 1996 and today has stores in both Aarhus and Copenhagen. With a busy store and full speed on a daily basis, the manual replacement of paper shelf labels in the physical stores was too costly for SkatePro. There was a need for a smarter solution for handling product and price updates. Hence the idea for the Breece System and electronic shelf labels.

“It’s a waste of employee resources to spend time and effort checking the price of the product on the shelf. That’s why we chose to invest in electronic shelf labels and now we can be absolutely sure that the price on the shelf matches the price in our online store,” says Jens Fredgaard, IT Manager at SkatePro.

In addition to saving time and creating a consistent experience with the same prices in online and physical stores, electronic shelf labels have also created new opportunities at SkatePro.

“Electronic shelf labels actually allow us to think differently and challenge the way we have done business in the past. For example, we can now show available sizes or colors in stock – directly on the shelf. This also saves us time,” Jens explains.

Skatepro thinks outside the box

SkatePro has also thought outside the box with the electronic signs, which today are also used as electronic meeting room signs(digital room signage), so the calendar is always updated in the office. Jens continues:

“We have three meeting rooms that are almost always busy. With an easy and painless integration to our stores, I thought we could also try using the shelf labels as meeting room signs – it works flawlessly and gives us a quick overview of available rooms.”
