VIETNAM RAILWAY CORPORATION

Easy and time-saving passenger handling with barcode solution at Vietnam Railway Corporation

The Vietnam Railway Corporation, which is responsible for all Vietnamese train operations, handles many passengers across the country. It is therefore crucial to be efficient while keeping track of passenger details and seats. For this purpose, Vietnam Railways uses a barcode ticketing solution, making the distribution of tickets both faster and much easier.

The Vietnam Railway Corporation is a state-owned operator responsible for running all railways in Vietnam with a 1,600 km route from northern Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City in the south. Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) in particular is a critical transportation hub due to its ideal location in the central part of Southeast Asia and the numerous international airlines flying to and from Vietnam. In addition, there has been a rapid growth in tourism in recent years.

Transportation of passengers, goods and luggage by rail, both nationally and internationally, places a high demand for efficient handling when it comes to printing and checking tickets on each individual train. After considering several possible suppliers back in 2014, the final choice fell on Delfi Technologies after consulting and finding the right solution; implementing a barcode solution that has now been running successfully for 5 years.

The good test result, combined with the high level of experience, made the outcome and the choice fell on Delfi as a trustworthy business partner.

BARCODES KEEP TRACK OF EVERYTHING

Today, the barcode solution consists of 180 receipt printers (model: Sewoo LK-T20EB) for printing passenger tickets at each train station in Vietnam, 180 mobile PDAs (model: BM180 PDA) to check passenger tickets, 100 barcode scanners (model: DelfiScan C90) to check return and exchange tickets. In addition, Delfi also supplies 60,000 ticket rolls on an annual basis.

A 2D barcode on the passenger ticket contains the necessary information about the passenger, such as ID number, seat number, date and time of boarding. The processing of any changes and/or return tickets has also been made easier by the ability to scan the corresponding 2D barcode. On board the train, the mobile PDA is used to scan the passenger ticket to check ticket validity, seat info, etc.

FROM EXPENSIVE TO COST-EFFECTIVE AND SIMPLE TICKETING

In the past, Vietnam Railways faced many challenges using thick and expensive paper for tickets in combination with expensive printers. The introduction of the barcode solution from Delfi has made it easier for Vietnam Railways to issue tickets. In addition, the installation process is now both simple and user-friendly.

By using the barcode solution across the country, Vietnam Railways saves costs and has an easy way to expand to more train stations as needed. The solution helps employees manage work processes as smoothly as possible, and passenger tickets are printed in seconds – saving a lot of time in everyday life. The cost-effective solution also makes it possible to offer passengers an attractive fare compared to other modes of transportation.

A TRUSTED BUSINESS PARTNER

With a deep knowledge of the barcode sector and more than 30 years of experience, Delfi used detailed know-how to offer different possible solutions based on Vietnam Railways’ budget and requirements for a new future-proof ticketing solution. After testing a possible solution, Vietnam Railways saw that the solution from Delfi could meet the specific requirements to cover all trains and passengers. The good test result, combined with the high level of experience, made the outcome and the choice fell on Delfi as a trustworthy business partner.

In addition to providing market-leading hardware devices, Delfi also develops and offers software solutions and a wide range of valuable services that together deliver complete barcode solutions with both the right hardware and software elements.
