New horizons: Greenland Airports ready for the future
In the autumn of 2024, Greenland took a significant step towards the future when the new international airport in Nuuk opened its doors. In the bright and welcoming terminal, digital price tags from Delfi Technologies help create a modern shopping experience.
The new airport in Nuuk is just the beginning of a new era for Greenland’s connections to the outside world. With the expansion of the runway to 2,200 meters, Nuuk Airport can now accommodate larger aircraft, enabling direct international flights and significantly reducing travel time.
The striking construction is part of Greenland Airports’ ambitious plan to modernize the country’s infrastructure with new airports in Nuuk, Ilulissat, and Qaqortoq. Greenland Airports plays a central role in ensuring safe and efficient travel options in the Arctic climate and connecting Greenland both internally and to the rest of the world.
The goal is clear: to make Greenland more accessible, strengthen tourism, and create new economic opportunities—not least through direct international flight connections.
“We wanted a solution that could make everyday life easier for our staff while also giving customers a great experience. The digital signs from Delfi Technologies look great, are easy to use, and make us much more efficient—it’s a solution we can confidently scale as we grow.”
An Upgrade of the Customer Experience
At the heart of the new terminal in Nuuk is a modern and inviting Duty Free shop that defines the passenger experience in the Arctic capital. The shop features digital price tags from Delfi Technologies, ensuring accurate, real-time updated prices and product information. The elegant signs complement the terminal’s design and make it easy for travelers to make quick, well-informed choices.
For the shop’s staff, the signs are a game-changer. Prices and product information can be updated centrally and automatically, saving time, reducing errors, and increasing flexibility—especially when introducing new products and promotions.
Technology, Reliability, and New Horizons
The choice of Delfi Technologies as a supplier was made with a focus on reliability, user-friendliness, and a professional appearance. Duty Free Manager Katrin J. Vajse, who leads the shop’s daily operations and development, explains:
– “We wanted a solution that could make everyday life easier for our staff while also giving customers a great experience. The digital signs from Delfi Technologies look great, are easy to use, and make us much more efficient—it’s a solution we can confidently scale as we grow.”
The coming years hold even more exciting projects. Greenland Airports is continuing the construction of new airports in Qaqortoq and Ilulissat, both of which are expected to be completed during the second half of 2026.
The airport in Qaqortoq is being built with a 1,500-meter runway and is positioned so that it can later be extended to up to 1,799 meters. The new airport in Ilulissat, with its 2,200-meter-long runway, will have the capacity for direct international flights to northern Greenland. Together with the airport in Nuuk, these new facilities will significantly improve the country’s overall accessibility and strengthen Greenland’s position as a modern and attractive travel destination.
