Bilka in Odense has raised the bar for the country’s largest hypermarket chain and can call itself the best store of 2025. The hypermarket is a clear example of what modern retail demands: strong operations, a distinct culture, and a customer experience that truly makes an impact.

The award comes from Salling Group, which operates 18 Bilka hypermarkets in Denmark. The stores are continuously evaluated on a number of key parameters such as customer experience, teamwork, culture, sales, and bottom-line performance. This is stated in a press release from Salling Group.

– It’s a great achievement by everyone. I’m incredibly proud of the entire team’s effort. It’s especially pleasing that we’ve seen a positive improvement in customer satisfaction, as well as growth in customer numbers. We’re very happy, says Morten Johansen, store manager at Bilka Odense.

The prestigious award was presented by Bilka’s Head of Retail, Tonny Drachmann Nielsen, together with the chain’s director, Mark Nielsen.

He highlights in particular the employees’ efforts and the strong local roots as decisive factors behind the success:

– It’s a truly strong team of skilled employees in Odense. There is great pride, a strong culture, and good cooperation with the local community. Among other things, the employees in Odense take on a significant social responsibility and are very visible in the city. The award is well deserved, he says.

The award will be celebrated with a large party for the roughly 700 employees at Bilka Odense before the summer holidays.
