"The timing was just right. Since we were rebuilding the store anyway, it made sense to invest in the newest solution. Digital price tags make us more efficient and give us more time for the customers."

The new SPAR in Balling: Rapid transformation – ready for the future

In just a day and a half, a local grocery store was reborn. From Brugsen to SPAR – with a new chain concept, new technology, and a clear ambition to strengthen both the customer experience and the local community.

SPAR has opened in Balling in Northwest Jutland. The former Brugsen was converted in record time: new products in place, shelves stocked, and the store ready for opening at the beginning of February.

The store closed on Saturday, January 31st as Brugsen – and already on Monday morning it reopened as SPAR. Customers were greeted with sharp opening offers, new checkout lanes, and a significantly expanded fruit and vegetable section.

The pace has been high

Store manager Mikkel Janum and the employees have stayed on from the former Brugsen, ensuring continuity during what is otherwise a significant transition to a new chain concept.

– We have had a fast pace, and things have gone well. My employees have really done a great job. It is a change for us, but an exciting one, and everyone has embraced it, says store manager Mikkel Janum, who together with his team has led the transition.

More than just a new name on the façade

Behind the scenes, SPAR Balling has been upgraded with new fixtures and modern solutions designed to make everyday life easier for both customers and employees.

A central element is the implementation of new digital price tags, replacing an older solution from the Coop era. The use of digital price tags is not new to the store, but the new setup required an upgrade.

Technology that frees up time for the customers

The choice therefore fell on the newest generation of digital price tags from Delfi Technologies.

– The timing was perfect. Since we were rebuilding the store anyway, it made sense to invest in the newest solution. Digital price tags make us more efficient and free up more time for the customers, says Mikkel Janum.

Digital price tags ensure fast price updates, fewer manual workflows, and better overview in the store. At the same time, they support more efficient operations, allowing employees to focus on customers rather than routine tasks.

With investments in layout, assortment, and technology, the ambition is clear: SPAR Balling aims to be a modern grocery store and a strong local meeting point.
