"A comprehensive rollout process is now beginning, starting in Himmelev, where we will continuously make adjustments to create the best possible version. We believe in the concept, but we are not too proud to change it if it turns out that customers want something different. We have put a lot of effort into it and look forward to bringing our laboratory in Køge into the real world—across all of Denmark."

The Netto of the future has become a reality

When Netto opened the doors to its first 4.0 store in Himmelev on April 23, 2026, it marked the culmination of more than a year of intensive development work. Behind the concept are thousands of test hours in a full-scale store laboratory in Køge—and in Himmelev, the ambitions have now become reality.

As Denmark’s largest grocery chain, Netto continuously works to further develop both its stores and its product range to meet customers’ needs in a market that is constantly changing.

With the opening in Himmelev, the first step has been taken in the introduction of Netto 4.0—a new store concept that sets the direction for the Netto of the future in Denmark.

– Although we already have a highly effective store concept that customers are largely satisfied with, every single day we look for the elements we can improve to provide our customers with world-class service and present Netto in its best version. Those are exactly the elements we have refined and adjusted in our new Netto concept, which is intended to take Netto, our customers, and my colleagues to an even better place, says Braw Bakir, Director of Netto Denmark.

Netto 4.0: Easier shopping, better overview

With Netto 4.0, Netto sets a clear direction: it should be easier and more intuitive to be a customer in the store.

In Himmelev, the store is designed with a focus on flow and orientation. The aisles are wider, product placement is more logical, and communication—both physical and digital—has been simplified. Promotional items are no longer hidden away, but placed where customers naturally look. This makes the shopping trip less complex and easier to navigate.

At the same time, the range has been expanded with new products and categories that reflect more varied demand—from international foods to alcohol-free alternatives. The goal is clear: to make Netto relevant to more customers without compromising simplicity.

More efficient operations, more time for customers

The changes in Netto 4.0 extend beyond the visible store environment. Operations have been rethought with the same focus on simplicity and efficiency.

As part of Salling Group, Netto is working purposefully to create better conditions for employees. An updated organization and improved facilities will strengthen well-being and collaboration—because a well-functioning store ultimately depends on people.

This is where the collaboration with Delfi Technologies plays an important role. As a technology partner, Delfi contributes solutions that simplify workflows and free up time for what matters most in everyday life: customers.

The technology serves as a practical tool to reduce friction—from product handling and overview to internal communication.

Today, Delfi Technologies supplies, among other things, price checkers, mobile label printers, PDAs, wireless headsets, as well as POS equipment such as barcode scanners, receipt printers, screens, and customer displays. Together, this supports smoother operations and a better in-store customer experience.

From Himmelev to the whole country: Netto 4.0 is being rolled out

The store in Himmelev marks the first step in a broader rollout of Netto 4.0, which will be introduced in more stores across the country during 2026. Along the way, the concept will be continuously adapted and further developed based on experiences from both customers and employees.

– A comprehensive rollout process is now beginning, starting in Himmelev, where we will continuously make adjustments to create the best possible version. We believe in the concept, but we are not too proud to change it if it turns out that customers want something different. We have put a lot of effort into it and look forward to bringing our laboratory in Køge into the real world—across all of Denmark, says Braw Bakir.
