Hobro Vinhandel digitizes the store with electronic price tags
The local wine shop in Hobro has been around for more than 10 years. A growth journey is underway and they have now gone all in on digitizing the store. They have gone from writing price tags by hand to a fully digital solution with a complete overview and access to data on the entire range of wines.
The Jutland wine shop, Hobro Vinhandel, is doing very well. Over the past few years, the store has been on a growth journey and has expanded its range, staff and shop space. At the same time, they have gone from being a very small specialty store with the right wine for the New Year’s menu – to now having a wide range that, among other things, invites you to grab a whole case of good red wine at a sharp price – and still have the very special vintages for the more special occasions.
As part of making the store more digital, they have invested in electronic shelf labels from Delfi Technologies and a new POS system. Before the store got the electronic shelf labels and the new POS system, they had no items set up in the system. This also meant that the price of a wine was simply entered under “red wine” in the POS system.

Digitization ensures up-to-date information
Roughly speaking, there was no overall overview of either which wines were sold or bestsellers.
– Before we got the new POS system and digital price tags, we relied on prices being attached to all our wines. We couldn’t just scan a wine at the checkout and see what it went for. Now we have digitized everything, have all prices in the system, and have the correct and updated prices on the shelf,” says Daniel Sloth, Store Manager at Hobro Vinhandel.
The software that controls the electronic shelf labels is located in the cloud and is connected to data from the store’s new POS system. This makes it quick and easy to send product and price information to the more than 500 different products on the shelves.
App helps employees
To link a new wine to a new sign, the store simply needs to make sure the wine is set up in the system – and then simply scan the sign’s barcode and then the wine. The actual linking of goods and signs is done using theDelfi Technologiesapp, which employees have on their smartphones. The app also has the option to change the layout of the sign, so you can have several wines on the same sign, for example.
In Hobro Vinhandel, the store has electronic price tags in two different sizes. A smaller Chroma 21 sign and the larger Chroma 42 sign. The smaller sign is mounted with a magnet directly on the shelves where liquor, beer and loose wines are sold. The larger signs are used mounted on an A4 stand, where longer descriptions, recommendations and ratings of the wines are displayed. Especially the large electronic signs provide a significant gain for Daniel and his business.
– Especially with the large signs that we have next to our wines, which are mainly sold in whole cases, we can really feel the difference. The sign shows our bargains with a bright red background, so customers are in no doubt that there is something to save here. Before we got these signs, we sold far fewer wines in whole cases. It’s more fun to send a customer off with 2-3 cases of good red wine than a few bottles,” says Daniel Sloth.
