Fast and accurate stocktaking with mobile PDAs at Beck & Jørgensen

To ensure efficient and accurate stocktaking of inventory, Beck & Jørgensen has implemented a stocktaking solution with mobile PDAs from Delfi Technologies. An automated solution that runs online and is fully integrated with the company’s SAP system, enabling immediate updates of the collected data across the company’s 18 locations.

Any company with goods in stock is familiar with it: counting inventory is an unavoidable task. Many companies typically carry out this task in connection with year-end closing to gain clarity on the current value of inventory. Other companies perform ongoing stocktaking to maintain continuously updated inventory and ensure optimal customer service with up-to-date stock figures across different locations.

In any case, it is a time-consuming task if it is done with manual entries on paper and lists. In this case, employees have to walk around and record each individual item and quantity by writing the information down. This traditional method can be time-consuming and inefficient, with a risk of errors.

from pen and paper to automated stocktaking

At Beck & Jørgensen, which has been supplying the painting trade since 1892, the company has moved from manual stocktaking with pen and paper to implementing an automated scanning solution. This need arose when the company was looking for a digital stocktaking solution to streamline the time-consuming process of counting inventory across its 18 customer centers.

With a range of more than 100 different product types, including paint and wood protection, the company now carries out a complete inventory count three times a year. This task has been digitized using mobile PDAs (model: Delfi PM85) from Delfi Technologies.

“- The scanning solution runs online, directly on our SAP system, and enables us to carry out faster stocktaking with real-time updates,” explains Henrik Bonde, IT Manager at Beck & Jørgensen, who has also been part of the process of developing the new stocktaking solution for SAP.

A clear advantage of the scanning solution is that the process is now significantly faster and the registrations are more accurate compared to the previous manual handling with pen and paper, Henrik Bonde elaborates:

– The process is now more efficient, and accuracy has improved. Previously, we simply counted what was on the printed lists, whereas today we scan everything and thereby obtain a complete overview of the exact inventory.
