MENY NORDHAVN

The food mecca of the future has come to Copenhagen

In Nordhavn, one of Copenhagen’s most vibrant neighborhoods, MENY has opened a new and modern food mecca that sets the standard for the supermarket of the future. A wide range of exclusive concepts are being tested to give customers inspiring food experiences. Electronic shelf labels are also helping to raise the bar.

Quality is the hallmark of the new district in Nordhavn, where MENY has opened a new flagship store. The location of the new modern food store has a very special history, as it opened in a listed building known as Riffelsyndikatet, a former weapons factory. To this day, the windows, ceiling, columns and load-bearing walls still stand as they did when the premises were built for the production of machine guns before and during World War II. Due to the listed building, MENY has also been forced to think differently from the start.

EXPERIENCED GROCER AND AMBITIOUS STORE MANAGER AT THE HELM

Mikael Lindegaard Kristiansen is a grocer at the new MENY in Nordhavn and has helped build the supermarket. He has more than 20 years of experience in the grocery industry from MENY in Lyngby, Salling Group and Coop. Day-to-day operations are the responsibility of the store manager, and Mike Drøhse Jensen, who is passionate about creating results, has this task. One tool that helps him and the approximately 60 other employees in the supermarket is electronic shelf labels, which in addition to saving time and reducing customer complaints, also helps to improve the look of the entire supermarket.

"The electronic shelf labels are a must for running a store today. With them, we avoid human errors that can ultimately cost customers."

Mike Drøhse Jensen, Store Manager MENY Nordhavn

– Electronic shelf labels are a must for running a store today. They help us avoid human error, which can ultimately cost customers. In addition, we have a new and inspiring look for the electronic shelf labels in the fruit and vegetable department. They are larger and the writing has a ‘chalk look’ – it’s definitely something that helps raise the bar and the experience in our supermarket,” says Mike Drøhse Jensen, Store Manager at MENY in Nordhavn.

THE KEY TO THE SUPERMARKET OF THE FUTURE

In the new food market, the key to the supermarket of the future is based, among other things, on the philosophy that employees are meal advisors who will provide customers with great food experiences and inspiration as FOODworkers. That’s why you’ll also find small, exciting concepts around the supermarket – from milk dispensers and juice bars to in-store coffee roasting.

– In addition to electronic shelf labels, we have several initiatives that focus on the customer experience. For example, you can try our milk vending machine, which has attracted a lot of interest. It’s organic and pasteurized milk that comes directly from the cows on a local farm. Basically, we’re just going the extra mile for great experiences and delicious products. That’s our take on the supermarket of the future.

The store has no parking spaces attached, but they have deliberately chosen to open MENY in the new district in Nordhavn before the new metro, parking garage, super bike path and other exciting urban plans are realized. In this way, MENY is involved from the start in the first stage, where a lot is being built in the area.
