Zealand Business College creates innovative learning environment with digital price tags
As a modern, sustainable and learning-oriented school, ZBC Næstved has in collaboration with Delfi Technologies implemented digital price tags in the school’s UBUY store. This initiative has both streamlined operations and strengthened teaching by bringing students closer to real-life retail, where theory and practice go hand in hand.
The UBUY store at ZBC Næstved is more than a school store – it is a gathering point for students and a modern learning space where theory meets practice and where students learn how sustainability and digital technology go hand in hand in future retail.
The store offers everything from snacks to lunch and drinks and also serves as a teaching tool in the subjects Business Informatics, Business Economics and Marketing. Here, students have the opportunity to put their theoretical knowledge into practice by becoming an active part of the store operations, handling everything from sales to assortment and pricing.
"With the digital signs from Delfi Technologies we can both save resources and add a technological dimension to teaching that many students will recognize from their after-school jobs."
UNESCO SDG school and international profile
According to Henrik Foged Bach Pedersen, one of the school’s commerce teachers, the decision to introduce digital price tags was driven by the desire to meet the school’s sustainability goals and to create a more relevant learning environment.
– We are an SDG school, so it doesn’t make sense to have a sustainable profile if we also print large amounts of paper for price tags.
ZBC focuses on what the school’s work means to society. ZBC is a UNESCO SDG school and has been since 2020. This means that the school incorporates the SDGs into all subject areas. ZBC also has a strong international profile.
– With the digital signs from Delfi Technologies we can both save on resources and add a technological dimension to teaching that many students will recognize from their after-school jobs,” explains Henrik Foged Bach Pedersen.
At the same time, the signs allow students to learn about economics, turnover and product preferences in practice, making the store a realistic reflection of retail outside of school.
Students also learn how the integration between the FrontPOS store system and the digital price tags makes it possible to update prices and product information in real-time. When changes occur, the information is automatically updated in real-time on the price tags, ensuring 100% consistency between the prices students see on the shelf and those registered at checkout.
Technology as a learning tool
– They gain insight into how modern retail technology can streamline operations and ensure correct pricing, and they see technological solutions that they can take with them to future jobs,” says Henrik Foged Bach Pedersen.
For Majbrit Kjær, another teacher, digital price tags also have a legal and communicative significance in education.
– The students learn how important it is that the information on price tags is correct and meets legal requirements for information. They get hands-on experience of how accurate pricing and branding affect the customer experience,” she explains. The signs therefore give students insight into the importance of correct pricing and marketing, which are crucial factors in running a successful store.
As one of Denmark’s largest vocational schools, ZBC Næstved has ambitions to be a frontrunner in bringing new technologies into teaching and creating links between school and business. Henrik Foged Bach Pedersen explains that the collaboration with Delfi Technologies is part of this strategy.
– We want to show students that we are a school that keeps up with the times. It’s not just to run a shop, but to give them an innovative learning environment that they can mirror in the labor market,” he says.
