Electronic shelf labels at Noma’s burger bar POPL

POPL – a burger bar that originally started as a Noma pop-up concept back in 2020. A pop-up that, to say the least, exceeded all expectations as they attracted long queues and rave reviews. Their burgers quickly became known as the ‘Noma burger’, and it wasn’t long before you could find a new burger bar on a corner in Christianshavn with a simple but carefully crafted menu.

In May 2022, POPL officially opened their new Takeaway Bottleshop and installed new electronic shelf labels to create a unique eye-catching experience.

As soon as you open the door to POPL burger bar, you’ll quickly spot a sign that reads ”City’s Best Takeaway 2021”. A well-deserved sign that quickly indicates that you’ve almost landed in the right place. If you look to the right in POPL’s takeaway section, you’ll automatically be drawn into a small wine show, where there’s no doubt that the selection has been carefully curated. The open wine coolers consist of high-quality natural wines at a fair price. The wines are sourced from Noma’s wine cellar and other importers in Copenhagen. Many of the wines are only available in a handful of bottles, so the range is often changed, which makes a dynamic and easy signage solution a good help in everyday life.

Kristian Rise appears behind the counter and introduces himself as POPL’s Beverage Manager, he is quick to show off their fully implemented electronic shelf labels, which provide exactly the eye-catching look he had hoped for.

‘- The dream was to give our Bottleshop a look that went away from the common manila labels that are often used in similar cases. Before the opening, we needed a quality product that could work together with our own specially selected quality products. It’s important for us to have a good eye-catcher and an easy approach to integration in everyday life,” says Kristian.

– I was actually walking around the supermarket chain, MENY, where I noticed the shelf labels they have on their shelves, and that’s when I got the idea of electronic shelf labels for our new Bottleshop. However, I was a little nervous about whether it was just something that was negotiated and installed for larger chains with several thousand products, or whether we at POPL could be in the game with our smaller but important installation. Fortunately, it wasn’t a long way from thought to action, so when I started the dialog with Delfi Technologies, it took about three weeks before we had our electronic shelf labels implemented and were therefore completely ready for our store opening,” says Kristian Rise.

The integration at POPL is created through Delfi TechnologiesPOPL staff can quickly add, delete and change their information on the shelf labels using an Excel spreadsheet, so that visitors are always updated on the product name, year, country and price. It all happens via a Breece Cloud Plug & Play solution, where they have a single wireless antenna in the store connected to an internet socket – simple and easy.
