SPAR JYDERUP

Once a merchant – always a merchant

At the beginning of 2020, SPAR in Jyderup got a new owner. In connection with the takeover, the new owner initiated a major upgrade of the store. New initiatives will give customers an improved experience, including electronic shelf labels.

Grocer Steen Olsen has taken over SPAR in Jyderup together with his wife, Dorthe Olsen. This is the grocer’s fifth store under the SPAR chain concept, so the role of store owner is certainly not new – he opened his first store back in 1992.

When it was decided that Steen Olsen would take over the SPAR store in Jyderup, he decided to introduce electronic shelf labels (ESL), as he had done exactly the same in his previous store. The solution itself is Cloud-based and the IT company Delfi Technologies is behind it.

"I know the Delfi solution from before and have only good experiences. Therefore, it was a natural choice. Once you've had ESL, you can't do without it."

BETTER VISIBILITY ON YELLOW PRICE RANGE

SPAR is part of the Dagrofa Group. Overall, more than 220 of Steen’s grocery store colleagues in Dagrofa have installed the same solution. As something new compared to many other stores, the grocer has chosen an additional solution to increase the visibility of the store’s Yellow Price range (Yellow Price means always low prices on more than 350 popular groceries at SPAR and MinKøbmand).

– It’s quite clever. We use a special type of electronic shelf labels that can display the color yellow, which is ideal for highlighting our Yellow Price range. That way, customers can quickly see which items are always at a fixed low price,” explains Steen Olsen.

GREAT FLEXIBILITY IN DAY-TO-DAY OPERATIONS

In addition to the yellow signs, the store also uses electronic shelf labels that automatically display offers and promotions in red. In practical terms, this means that when an item goes on sale in the system, the shelf labels automatically change color.

The Breece solution with electronic shelf labels provides great flexibility in day-to-day operations. Employees can use the store’s handheld terminal to link products and signs together. This way, electronic shelf labels can be added to new products directly at the shelf.

– For us as a store, it’s about keeping the development going and continuously working with new ideas that help us do things smarter – both in relation to our customers and our employees. It’s crucial if you want to continue to create great experiences,” the grocer concludes.
