Downtime is often a costly affair in retail, where the key is to ensure optimal store operations. At NORMAL, they have found the right formula, which also meets customers’ expectations of fast and efficient service.
The pace is high at the retail chain NORMAL, which has grown into a major success in Denmark and beyond, with stores in Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, France, and Finland. In a busy day-to-day, it is therefore crucial to avoid downtime in the well-visited stores.
As part of the strategy to continue the impressive growth journey, the chain has also made deliberate choices when it comes to the use of store solutions that benefit both employees and customers.
– This is partly about giving employees tools that make them more mobile via handheld devices, so they can carry out operational tasks where the customers are, says Søren Sivebæk, IT Director at NORMAL.
NORMAL has found the right tools through complete store solutions from the IT company Delfi Technologies, which provide the necessary operational reliability and prepare the chain for the retail of the future.
– Driftssikre løsninger er alfa og omega – det hele handler om stabilitet og driftssikkerhed. “Our collaboration with Delfi Technologies gives us access to the leading technology on the market, solutions with a long service life, and a high level of service,” says Søren Sivebæk.
For NORMAL, this means ensuring robust operations and helping stores handle inventory management, stocktaking, customer service, and other important store tasks smoothly.
The store solution consists of mobile handheld terminals (Zebra TC52) incl. a service agreement, a custom-developed “Find My Device” app, SOTI MobiControl for configuring mobile devices, an all-in-one POS system (Toshiba TCx 800) with a receipt printer and cash drawer, barcode scanners (Zebra DS9308), label printers (Zebra GK420d), and PDAs (Delfi PM66) for cycle counting, delivered in rugged transport cases.
– On the IT and technology side, reliable solutions are important. Consistency helps provide stability, low support requirements, and a good TCO, explains Søren Sivebæk.
NORMAL also uses Delfi Technologies’ Android Zero Touch partnership when rolling out new devices. Det betyder, at man blot kan scanne en stregkode, hvorefter de mobile enheder automatisk konfigureres med de ønskede indstillinger.
– Rolling out new technology is no longer an administrative burden—it saves us both time and energy on tasks that are normally extremely resource-intensive, says Søren Sivebæk.
NORMAL markets itself as a store that sells completely ordinary products at fixed low prices. The chain opened its first store in 2013 and has now surpassed 270 stores across 6 countries. The assortment is sourced where the goods are cheapest, thereby avoiding costly intermediaries, which means you can often save 30–60% compared to the market price.
