Electronic shelf labels for happier customers and employees
During 2018, the Greenlandic retail chain Pisiffik is investing in customer and employee satisfaction by replacing traditional paper price signs with electronic price signs in 21 stores. The investment will result in both happier customers and more time to be a shopkeeper.
Today, considerable resources are used to ensure that the customer sees the correct price on the shelf in Pisiffik’s grocery stores – Pisiffik Supermarkets and Spar convenience stores. It’s a time-consuming task that takes up a lot of every employee’s day. When a special offer item doesn’t have the right price tag, it also affects the customer experience.
Electronic shelf labeling ensures that the price on the shelf matches the price at the checkout. This saves time for employees and makes for happier customers, says analyst Palle Holm, who joined Pisiffik 1.5 years ago and started the electronic shelf labeling project.
Better time to be a merchant
According to Palle Holm, the calculation is simple – they have looked at what will help pay the bill. One part comes from major savings in the time spent on all the manual work involved in newspaper offers and price changes, which will instead run automatically with electronic price signage. At the same time, there will also be significant time savings from fewer complaints, which will also pay a large part of the bill. But it’s not just about savings. It’s also about creating a better experience for customers, which is where the other part of the benefit comes from. Pisiffik expects to see more satisfied customers as customers will experience fewer price errors in stores.
‘- In addition to the fact that we see fewer price errors and thus fewer customer complaints, we also save a lot of time by introducing electronic shelf labels. We have more time to be merchants for our customers. That’s basically what it’s all about,” says a satisfied Palle Holm.
Experience shows higher customer and employee satisfaction
The roll-out of electronic shelf labels is underway and the stores that were the first to introduce electronic shelf labels have already experienced greater satisfaction among customers and employees, says an expectant Palle Holm.
– “We can already see that our expectations for time savings will be met. At the same time, we have received a positive response from our customers, which is the most important thing,” says Palle Holm.
