Unilite optimizes warehouse and order processes with Delfi Technologies’ handheld terminal solution

The Danish company Unilite, the market’s leading producer of quality roof windows, has taken a significant step towards streamlining and precision in their internal logistics processes. With Delfi Technologies’ handheld terminal solution, Unilite has optimized the receiving and dispatch procedures.

Unilite is renowned for its top-quality roof windows, meeting the increasing demands for insulation, fire safety, and air circulation in case of fire. The company’s products are primarily used in large warehouses or office buildings, where quality and reliability are particularly crucial.

At Unilite, they value the significance of Danish quality, thus the company chose to manufacture their roof windows at their own factory in Snæbum, outside Hobro. With a focus on transparency and collaboration, the company delivers skylights, light panels, and fire ventilation systems in close dialogue with the customer, ensuring the solution is tailored precisely to each project’s needs.

Reduction of errors and faster receiving

To improve warehouse and order processes and ensure even higher service quality and delivery reliability, the company has implemented a handheld terminal solution from Delfi Technologies. It’s a warehouse solution with software that automates various manual tasks, saving time and eliminating errors.

Previously, Unilite’s employees had to manually check and record incoming goods using paper-based orders. This was a time-consuming process associated with the risk of errors and required extra time for administrative work inputting data into systems. Thanks to Delfi Technologies’ solution, this process now happens automatically, leading to a reduction in errors and an increase in the speed of the receiving process.

With the Delfi solution, Unilite’s staff can easily open purchase orders directly on the handheld terminal and then perform a thorough check and scan of the received goods. This process ensures precise alignment between ordering and delivery while minimizing the risk of errors.

"Delfi Technologies' handheld terminal solution has been a crucial advantage for the company. We've seen significant improvements in our warehouse and order processes. Previously, there was always some uncertainty about the location and contents of our orders, but now we have complete control and documentation. This has strengthened our customer confidence and significantly increased our internal efficiency."

Documentation enhances delivery reliability

Furthermore, the solution enhances Unilite’s dispatch process by integrating a module that ensures all necessary items, such as assembly screws and shipping labels, are correctly included in each order.

Unilite has also been able to take pictures of shipments, allowing them to document the contents and condition of deliveries. This is particularly valuable when shipping to large construction sites where recipients may not always be present.

Taking pictures of deliveries can enhance documentation and delivery reliability in several ways. Firstly, pictures provide visual confirmation of what was sent with each order, which can be especially useful in cases of questions about the delivery’s contents or condition. This can help resolve any discrepancies quickly and efficiently.

Moreover, pictures can also serve as a useful tool for quality control, as they allow the recipient to inspect the goods before acceptance. If a Unilite customer receives an order and discovers something missing, even though it was originally included on the shipping order, it can incur costs and concerns. Firstly, missing items can delay the customer’s project, resulting in loss of productivity and additional costs. Additionally, the missing item can cast doubt on Unilite’s reliability and service quality, potentially affecting long-term customer trust in the company. When Unilite takes a picture for documentation, it is automatically uploaded to their Sharepoint, and they can access the images directly on the order in Microsoft Business Central.

Therefore, it is crucial for Unilite to ensure that their order processes are error-free to avoid such situations and maintain their reputation as a reliable supplier. Overall, the solution contributes to creating a more transparent and reliable delivery process, increasing trust and satisfaction for both the company and its customers.

Next steps for Unilite include implementing a location management and order picking module on the handheld terminals. This will further improve their warehouse management by providing employees with precise instructions on where to find items in the warehouse. At the same time, the system will help minimize errors by cross-referencing products via barcodes.
