Hobbii saves five figures annually after replacing label printers in the order packing process

Hobbii, a leading supplier of yarn and craft supplies, has taken a big step towards streamlining their packaging process and reducing waste by implementing linerless technology in their warehouse. Through a partnership with Delfi Technologies Hobbii has not only simplified their packaging processes, but is also achieving annual savings of around one million DKK when taking into account both cheaper material and reduced time consumption.

In 2023, Hobbii commissioned a new robotic warehouse, which has resulted in significant savings for the company by automating the handling of webshop orders. The warehouse consists of 41,000 storage boxes and robots that efficiently transport the boxes to employees responsible for picking and packing orders. This has significantly improved the efficiency of their logistics processes.

A crucial factor in the company’s impressive success is the efficient work processes that enable Hobbii to maintain a high level of quality and ensure accurate deliveries to their customers. As part of the continuous optimization process that Hobbii is constantly working within, the company has also chosen to upgrade their label printers and labels in collaboration with Delfi Technologies. This has led to the implementation of Zebra ZD621 linerless label printers in the warehouse, ensuring even more efficient and fast packaging processes for the many orders.

Save up to 3 seconds per order

The main advantage of the new Zebra label printer is its ability to print labels without backing paper. This means that staff no longer need to spend time removing the backing, resulting in a time saving of around 2.5-3 seconds per order. With the large number of daily orders they handle, this represents a significant accumulated time saving over time. Furthermore, on orders outside the EU, two labels are included: a regular shipping label and a customs clearance label.

40% less waste

The new label printing solution has brought additional benefits to Hobbii’s ESG accounts. With 40% less material waste with the new labels and a significant saving in time consumption, this amounts to an annual saving of around one million DKK. It has therefore proven to be an economic and environmental benefit for the company. The new label printers also cut the label to precise lengths, reducing unnecessary paper waste and supporting Hobbii’s focus on sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Hobbii continues to be a leader in the yarn and craft industry with ongoing investment in new technology, with the decision to implement the new Zebra label printer also demonstrating the company’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in all processes.

In addition to label printers and labels for the warehouse, Hobbii also uses technology and other barcode solutions from Delfi Technologies in the company’s physical stores, where everything from digital price tags to complete POS solutions help ensure efficient processes and great customer experiences.
