A storage solution for faster and easier inventory management

It must be easy to manage the warehouse in a busy everyday life and in stressful periods with pressure on both order flow and goods receipt. That’s why two IT companies, Scanditek and Delfi Technologies, have teamed up to offer a warehouse solution that is both quick and easy – while providing the necessary overview using digital registration and barcodes in the warehouse.

Keeping track of inventory can be hard enough on a daily basis. But the significant growth in e-commerce and seasonal fluctuations due to huge sales days such as Black Friday place even greater demands on the handling of parcels and goods registration at Danish companies today. The shipping process must be controlled from start to finish and time-consuming tasks must be eliminated.

Scanditek supplies ERP/financial systems to a wide range of manufacturing companies – everything from the production of chairs to chocolate, electrical panels and shovels to digging cows. With huge production volumes and many daily shipments, there is a particular need for efficient inventory management.

For many years, Scanditek has collaborated with Delfi Technologies, which develops barcode solutions for streamlining work processes at warehouse and production companies, among others. Delfi Technologies has developed a real-time warehouse solution based on the logic of an accounting system. Using barcodes and scanning, you can keep track of goods registration and automatically transfer all data to the financial system you already work with in your company. This also means that the logic of the financial system is returned directly to the scanner.

AVOID THE HASSLE OF PAPER AND TIME-CONSUMING TASKS

The warehouse solution from Delfi Technologies consists of a handheld PDA (Delfi PM66) with warehouse software that is integrated with the financial system. The inventory solution is based on the system’s own data, where registrations via the PDA with built-in barcode reader are transferred real-time to the financial system.

Digital registration provides a complete overview and ensures traceability in the warehouse. It also saves time and eliminates the hassle of paper, which is a time-consuming task that typically leads to errors.

– The beauty of the warehouse solution is that it makes inventory management much faster and easier. In reality, the idea is that it should be so easy that you can bring in a new person off the street who can figure out how to use the solution and keep track of the processes in the warehouse,” says Allan Keith.

 

A DYNAMIC AND FUTURE-PROOF STORAGE SOLUTION

The warehouse solution for Scanditek’s customers is currently built on the financial system, Microsoft Dynamics C5. However, as the solution is based on a future-proof Android platform, it is also very dynamic and can in fact be integrated with all types of ERP/financial systems.

– In addition to regular location management, a “pallet” function has been built into C5 as an extra warehouse dimension, based on the so-called chaos warehouse principle, so that pallets with different goods can be received directly into the warehouse and subsequently picked directly for an order. This saves time and frees up storage space,” explains Allan Keith.

In addition, the storage solution can handle the following processes:

  • Registration of raw materials
  • Receiving goods
  • Moving goods (e.g. to a new location)
  • Item lookup (typically prices, stock status, sales statistics, etc.)
  • Inventory count / stock status
  • Order picking
  • Production
  • Sending goods
  • Process tracking (how far along a part is in production – typically multiple steps/phases)
