With its primary background in ship repair and shipbuilding, Scanel International A/S has now expanded its activities into new sectors, including offshore wind turbines in the North Sea. To meet the growing demands for inventory management and case management, the company has decided to upgrade its handheld terminal solutions, where Delfi Technologies has been chosen as a business partner.
Scanel International A/S, a leading electrical contracting company focused on ship repair and shipbuilding, wanted to increase the efficiency of their work processes by enabling the use of their mobile handheld terminals and software in remote locations such as construction sites and port areas. For this reason, the company upgraded their handheld terminal software by migrating from an older Windows platform to a more modern Android solution from Delfi Technologies.
- While there has been a shift from Windows to Android, we haven't actually experienced that. Everything has gone amazingly smoothly. You can really feel that there are people at Delfi who know what they are doing," says Jesper Sørensen, IT Manager at Scanel International A/S.
An easy and smooth migration
Scanel International A/S chose Delfi Technologies as the supplier of the company’s new handheld terminal solution back in 2004, a solution that at the time was based on Windows. In January 2024, this solution was upgraded to an Android-based platform. This shift has not only improved the performance of their system, but has also opened up opportunities for the use of terminals and software in remote locations such as construction sites and port areas. The new handheld terminals (model: Delfi PM85) can use SIM cards, so repairers can easily use the solution even if they are on a construction site.
Switching from Windows handheld terminals to Android handheld terminals has several advantages, especially when it comes to efficiency, flexibility and ease of use. The Android platform offers a newer technological infrastructure compared to older Windows systems. This means that Android handhelds typically have more modern hardware and software with faster performance, better battery life and improved usability.
The migration from Windows to Android solution has been a success for Scanel International A/S. The seamless transition has allowed them to continue their operations without disruption and has improved the company’s efficiency.
Efficient case management and inventory management
The handheld terminals fit the exact needs and requirements of your business. These terminals allow efficient case management and inventory management. The devices are used extensively to facilitate case management when picking components from stock for use on, for example, ships under repair.
Accurate tracking of goods is a significant advantage for repairers when using the handheld terminals during picking from the warehouse. By using the handheld terminals for the picking process, each component or part is registered on site, eliminating the risk of errors or missing information.
This accurate tracking also ensures that there are no delays or misunderstandings related to inventory and stock usage. Repairers can be confident that they have the correct components available when they go out to perform repairs or maintenance tasks on ships.
In addition, the handheld terminals are integrated with the company’s Microsoft Navision and are also used for status counts, ensuring accurate information is maintained across the company’s various warehouses and locations. This is because the handheld terminal can be assigned to different locations, so status counts can be performed regardless of which location or warehouse they are in.
