MY GROCERY STORE BJERREGAARD

Local grocery store success: here’s why

Many small local grocers have to turn the key, but in the summer cottage area between Nymindegab and Hvide Sande, the local Min Købmand store in Bjerregaard is successfully running a shop. Now the grocery store is also investing in electronic shelf labels so that employees can save time and prices are updated automatically instead.

The Hvide Sande holiday home area is one of the largest and most popular areas by the North Sea. The area has a strong attraction among both Danish and foreign (especially German) visitors. The large influx of holiday home guests creates great value in the local area, where many also visit grocer and co-owner Carsten Jespersen’s shop in Bjerregaard, which is centrally located between Hvide Sande and Nymindegab. According to the grocer, this is something that contributes positively to turnover.

– “A large part of our turnover is driven by holiday home guests in the area. Therefore, we have to adapt our offers and activities to the many visitors, says Carsten Jespersen, grocer and co-owner of Min Købmand in Bjerregaard and the two SPAR stores in Hvide Sande.

"With electronic shelf labels, we can react much faster and update all our prices electronically instead of on paper. This saves us a lot of time in our everyday work and frees up resources that we can instead spend on our customers."

FASTER CUSTOMIZATION

One initiative that supports faster customization is the implementation of electronic shelf labels.

– With electronic shelf labels, we can react much faster and update all our prices electronically instead of on paper. This saves us a lot of time in our everyday work and frees up resources that we can instead spend on our customers,” explains Carsten Jespersen.

Together with a group of four equal owners, Carsten Jespersen is co-owner of the grocery store in Bjerregaard and the two SPAR stores in Hvide Sande. Two of the other co-owners and grocers, Michael Sangill and Thomas Pedersen, have previously been students of Carsten Jespersen and his partner, Erik Bjerg, who also co-owns the three stores.

– Back in 2017, we introduced electronic shelf labels in our two SPAR stores in Hvide Sande. They are larger stores than our grocery store in Bjerregaard, but as we have seen the benefits of time savings in the other two stores, it is natural for us that we also get the same operational benefits in all stores, Carsten Jespersen concludes.

Both Min Købmand and SPAR are part of the Dagrofa grocery group. The majority of the group’s stores are run by independent grocers. Nationwide, more than 200 Dagrofa stores (MENY, SPAR, Min Købmand and Let-Køb) have installed the Breece solution with electronic shelf labels.
