VEJERS SUPERMARKET
Local supermarket at the forefront of development
Vejers Supermarked has had a good year despite Corona. When things go well, profits are invested in developing the business. Most recently, the local Let-Køb store has invested in electronic price tags from Delfi Technologies.
Located at Stjerne Camping in Vejers Strand, Southwest Jutland is Vejers Supermarket, which is part of Let-Køb – one of Dagrofa’s local store chains. The supermarket employs a total of 13 employees, including part-time and vacation replacements. The supermarket is particularly busy during the high season when campers and holiday home guests visit, but the supermarket is actually open 363 days a year.
Vejers Supermarket is owned and operated by Stjerne Camping, with Store Manager Anne Marie Enghave in charge of daily operations. Together with the owners, she continuously looks at new opportunities to improve the store, as the profits are reinvested in developing the business.
Among other things, energy-saving measures have been implemented on refrigerators and freezers as well as new lighting. Most recently, electronic shelf labels (ESL) have been on the store manager’s wish list for a long time. According to Anne Marie Enghave, the inspiration comes from other supermarkets, as this is something you see everywhere today.
"I've often thought that electronic shelf labels would be smart, and we must have them, because we can save a lot of time."
QUICK AND EASY TO GET STARTED
As Vejers Supermarked is part of the Let-Køb chain and thus also Dagrofa, for which Delfi Technologies is already an approved supplier, the store could quickly get started with electronic shelf labels. Delfi Technologies has supplied Dagrofa with electronic shelf labels for more than 10 years.
– I actually lost sleep the whole night leading up to the installation day because IT might not be my strong suit. But there was no reason for that at all – everything was just so easy,” says Anne Marie Enghave and continues:
– For all Let-Køb stores there is a starter kit where you get everything you need to get started quickly. Here we have a number of electronic shelf labels that we can start with in selected areas, and then we can continuously order more.
Let-Køb stores can take advantage of the mentioned starter package, which contains a complete solution. The installation itself can be done according to the store’s needs, so you can take it department by department or subject by subject.
In addition to electronic shelf labels, the package also includes a wireless antenna for communication and a software package(Breece Cloud). The electronic shelf labels come in different sizes, where Vejer Supermarked has chosen the larger displays for fruit and vegetables, which require larger signs. The smaller signs are used for the general assortment.
INTEGRATION TO EXISTING SYSTEM
The electronic shelf labels retrieve data directly from the store’s own system, so regardless of whether the goods are purchased via Dagrofa or local suppliers, the labels can find the item as soon as it is created in the system.
When electronic shelf labels need to be attached to new products, the store can also use the existing ordering terminal for this. Simply scan the item’s barcode and the barcode on the sign and the two are linked. You can also use the handheld terminal to delete a sign from the system.
CAN USE ESL TO SELL DATE GOODS
Anne Marie Enghave also mentions that the store can use the system to reduce the price of date products. So if you want to adjust the price of milk or yogurt, for example, you just do it directly in the system, after which the shelf edge is updated with the reduced price.
– “Of course, we’d rather sell date products than risk throwing them out. We can use the electronic shelf labels for this, as we can react much faster and change prices,” explains Anne Marie Enghave.
– When we update a price in the system, it only takes a few seconds for the sign to be updated. It’s simple to use and something everyone can figure out,” she says.
NEW MEASURES ARE NEEDED
Vejers Supermarked is one of the stores that dares to lead the way and look for new ways to develop the business. The next project will be to establish a room for firewood outside the store. In addition, the store manager hopes to install electronic price tags throughout the store.
– Now we’ve seen how well it works and how easy it is to work with. So I can only recommend that we roll it out throughout the store,” concludes Anne Marie Enghave.
